30-Hour Introductory Course

Introductory Course
Learners will analyze the data-driven business world as they gain exposure to different career paths and industry tools. This course provides an accurate representation of the skills learners will acquire and the projects you can hope to complete should you choose to pursue the Extended Program. -
SQL and Databases
In this course, learners can import data into databases, query the data, join tables together, filter and sort the resulting queries, create stored views and export the data to another format. Database design and learning how to manage databases are also explored. -
Statistics and Probability
This course will aid in the building of a strong foundation in descriptive statistics, conditional probability, and advanced modeling techniques. After this course, learners can expect to approach real-world problems from an analytical perspective with confidence. -
Data Storytelling
Course participants will learn visual concepts required to produce effective visualizations while also discerning between the psychological and anatomical components of data storytelling. By keeping a data story thread throughout their entire data-wrangling adventure, learners will frame their data goals with purpose. -
Milestone Project 1:
Building and Presenting Data Stories
Learners will demonstrate their ability to clean and manipulate a dataset and perform advanced statistical analysis using summary statistics, linear regression, and modeling. This milestone project allows learners to explore their skills in the areas of statistics, Excel, SQL, and data storytelling. -
Python Programming
In this course, learners explore the fundamental concepts of programming and how to structure their analyses. Topics will include core programming concepts such as expressions, data types, variables, functions, loops, and arrays. -
Data Wrangling
Learners expand on their programming skills as they explore a series of data analysis processes, including exploratory data analysis; sourcing, curating, and importing data; data cleansing; and data visualization. Additionally, industry-standard software will be used to automate data wrangling processes. -
Visual Communications
Course attendees explore visual dynamics and principles to produce effective data visualizations that showcase the most important parts of data to stakeholders in a clear and simplified way. -
Advanced SQL Programming
Building upon the skills learners gained in their previous SQL and Databases course, this course extends SQL programming skills by covering topics such as stored procedures, triggers, cursors, and query optimization. -
Milestone Project 2:
Data Integration, Preparation, Reporting and Presentation
Learners demonstrate their ability to build data pipelines and wrangle data into a usable format for downstream data visualization and analytics by presenting their reports to classmates. This milestone project focuses on developing the learner's ability to attain, transform, investigate, and present data throughout a data project life cycle. -
Business Intelligence
This course teaches learners to build on visual communication concepts by demonstrating proficiency with popular industry tools and creating purposeful analyses and visualizations. Learners develop and apply best practices for reporting, graphs and charts, and dashboards in a way that can be applied in any business intelligence application. -
Big Data
In this course, learners examine core concepts and methods used for big data and IoT, including characteristics of big data, data warehousing, data lakes, data virtualization, and cloud-based data infrastructure services. Learners will build upon their previous knowledge of Python by using PySpark to access big data to create analytics models. -
Machine Learning
Learners get the chance to analyze a variety of use-cases within a business context for determining appropriate machine learning methods to apply and explore natural language processing, neural networks, and deep learning. -
Applied Artificial Intelligence
After an introduction to AI and machine learning in the previous module, learners will explore a variety of pre-packaged AI cloud services offered by leading providers like Amazon. This class immerses participants into the real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence to begin understanding how AI works. -
Milestone Project 3:
Delivering Insights and Presentations
Learners present their data insights and visualizations by learning how to organize data visualizations around a goal and integrate a story arc to keep their audience engaged. This milestone culminates in a final project presentation that capitalizes on their data analysis, data storytelling, and presentation skills. -
